Hesitating/Constant Pin Wheel Problems

No matter where I'm working (program, online, word, etc.) when I click on something or have clicked on something I get the pin wheel and the computer hesitates. This just started within the last week or so. Also it is hesitating when I type. If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful. Thanks!

1. Shut down machine
2. Turn it on and immediately perform reset pram option+command+R+P(Do not let go) wait until the 3rd chime
3. after the 3rd chime immediately press shift(your doing safe boot)now this takes a while because booting into safe mode will run various tasks of maintence.
4. Once you see the login screen,login of course then do a repair disk permissions
5. Download onyx or main menu to do some cleaning for you.

This will potentially optimize your mac.
