How to lock the Screen Saver without System Preferences

Hi All,

Now, we can lock the ScreenSaver in the Apple Menu-->System Preferences...-->Security to lock and unlock the sceensaver, and it will takes effect at once.

When we modify the ~/library/preferences/Byhost/com.apple.screensaver.<hostId>.plist, the key is "askForPassword", we need to logout/login to take effect.

How to take effect without logout/login likes what the SystemPreferences do?

Thanks very much.

Joe

I would assume that when you lock the screensaver via the System Preferences, there is some process that is killed and restarted...

When you simply edit the .plist file, this process is most likely NOT killed and restarted, so it's not loading the new preferences.

If you know what process controls the screen saver, perhaps you could try killing it and restarting it.
