i just purchased a ibook g4 from a close friend and i wanted to install the updates but when i trid to it asked for the admin password which i dont have. I asked my friend but he doesnt remeber it and he no longer has tht software disk. i looked up an old forum post and followed tha steps tht was mentioned but there is a lock on the admins account and i cant make any changes witout the password. im aware that this is a older model but is there any other way that i can reset the computer so that the password will no longer be required???

Best get the retail version of Mac OS X 10.5. That DVD (can't be the version that came with a computer, needs to be the retail one!) can boot your iBook G4 and has the "Reset Passwords" option in Utilities. If you never need to reinstall OS X, you can also use the installation disc of another PowerPC Mac that was released _after_ the iBook G4, i.e. any iBook G4, PowerBook G4, PowerMac or iMac/eMac that was released after your particular iBook G4. (But I wouldn't _buy_ one of those. Just find someone who has one. You only need it once for resetting the password.)
