iCal cuts off message

Sometimes when I type in a new event in iCal and click Done, only the first few words of the message appear in the box. Sometimes it works fine and I can type in a paragraph. Have seen nothing of this problem on the web.
What the...?

iCal (at least in the "Month" view) truncates long event titles. To view the entire title, double-click the entry.

Or am I not understanding the question, perhaps?
 
Thanks for responding. Generally, I can put in a reasonably long title. Like I just tried 12 words and they showed up fine on 3 lines. But sometimes it only displays the first three or so word (perhaps it is that everything after the first line fails to display).

I also noticed the last couple of days the calendar in the dock has said Aug 19, when it was, and is, way past that. As soon as I open iCal, the number corrected itself. I guess I am due for a restart (been about a week).
