What kind of ram is use for imac g3's? Do they sell it at bestbuy, walmart, or circuit city? Or is it some special type for only macs you can only buy online? I have 512MB currently and I want 1gb of ram for my g3 . Also what is the max for imac g3? thanks!

Hi The Mac, as there are a few different iMac G3s and AFAIK, they run on slightly different RAM, I suggest you go to a RAM retailer like Crucial.com or Other World Computing and use their inbuilt facility to find your iMacs RAM.

For eg: Crucial.com has the "Crucial Memory Advisor tool" where you enter your iMacs specs and are eventually directed to the relevant RAM.

What iMac G3 do you have, specifically?

AFAIK, The Mac, your iMacs max limit for RAM is 1GB.

Here's a link to a 512MB module available at Crucial.

Another good 3rd Party RAM vendor is Newegg.com. As you've no doubt heard, Apple charges a bundle for additional RAM so bear that in mind.

With the Australian $ riding high at the moment it's a great time for us to buy RAM. I recall a few years previously where I purchased 2 x 512mb RAM mods for almost $200Aus .... the pain ... the pain ....

PC100 SDRAM required, your iMac will accommodate 1 Gb with a matched pair. I read somewhere that PC133 SDRAM was used successfully, but speed increase was minimal.

Shop around on your local internet auction site. In addition to the brands already suggested, I've used Kingston successfully, and it's quite often to be found sold 2-hand. I've not yet encountered a problem with used RAM.
