iMovie and HD camcorder "JVC JY-HD10U"

iMovie will only edit DV format footage. If you want to edit HD you'll need to drop the $1k on Final Cut Pro.

OF course, if you're going to buy a $3500 camera, another $1000 for software isn't TOO unreasonable...

$1000.00 is a lot no matter how much you pay for the cam.

Canopus ProCoder does HD and is only $699 retail, and cheaper on the street. Furthermore, I found that JVC cam online for only $2700.00 ( yes that's USD ), and these two JVC cams are the very first two consumer HD cams available and prices are only going to go down.

Apple should add HD to iMovie now and beat the rush.
I thought Apple was supposed to be leader in video editing.

Beat what rush? I can't say I know too many people who are going to be rushing out to buy High Definition CONSUMER cameras, and then expecting to use practically free software to edit it with. Yes, HD support in iMovie would be nice, but the chances are if you are using HD, you have fairly decent footage, and the price of FCP will be money well spent.
