iPod suddenly only lasts 45 mins

I bought my wife an ipod in june last year, a 5 GB model. It appears that since the iMovie 4 upgrade it runs through the batteries when playing much quicker than normal.

Does anyone know anything about this phenomenon?
 
Do you use it to save movies on from iMovie?

Whenever you have it in Firewire Disk Mode (it's mounted on the Desktop), it's using some of the batter power. Probably it's not charging all the way - try leaving it connected but unmounting it for a while, see if it charges any better after that.
