iPod + Windows USB2 = Battery Drain!

Does anyone know of this.

I put my iPod into a windows box, it stays connected for about 30 seconds.. and half of the battery has been drained.. a minute, and its pretty much all drained..

If someone could show me to a solution, and please dont say mac, cause i have one of those.. and ofcourse it works fine, but i want to use the iPod to move my documents from work and then home..

I think you found out why there is a Windows version and a Mac version of the iPod.

Have you tried plugging in the AC while connected to the windows machine?

Thanks for the advice but when i bought the iPod on the box it said for Mac and Windows, so i assume the hardware is meant to work on both platforms..

There is another update maybe there will be something in that for my problem

does the usb2 on the pc work normally with other devices? the card might not be seated properly. I had a pc that would crash every time I plugged my old ipod into it, but it turned out the firewire card was just loose

hmmmm nope, they are inbuilt into the motherboard.. It's an IBM Netvista.. work machine... so yes it works fine.. damn i wish i could use a mac at work.. *sigh*..

Anyway yes it works fine, i have an external laptop hdd thing.. and that has worked fine..

I would love to talk to someone from apple about this..

Have a look at the description of the USB2 adaptor on this page:

It seems to me that the FireWire cable must also be attached in order for the iPod to charge. Perhaps the iPod doesn't support charging over USB2, so it's using all the battery power because the hard drive is constantly spinning when it's attached.
