Is there a way to convert DVD videos to .MP4 or .MOV?

I have over 30 DVDs of home movies that I would like to convert to files that can be played on Mac and iPad.

At this time I have all of them on physical disks and I have a disk player attached to the Mac.

The videos are all also on the Mac in a variety of file formats: .img, cdr, .iso, and .dmg.

Can anyone point me to an app that will convert either the disk files or the disk images to .mp4, .mov, or equivalent?

Programs like HandBrake are popular for this, offering a straightforward interface to convert your disks into various file formats including MP4 and MOV, which are great for playing on Mac and iPad.

Once you've converted your videos, if you need to do any editing—like trimming, adding subtitles, or adjusting the quality—you can check out some free software options. Here’s a helpful link to explore: https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/free-video-editing-software-for-mac.html. This guide covers a range of tools that are user-friendly and compatible with Macs, ideal for polishing your home movies without watermarks or additional costs.
