You should also check that your back cooling port is not plugged. It's a round opening about 1-inch in diameter, on the back directly under the support hinge.

Just so there's no misunderstanding - On a mid-2007 iMac, the video card is a plug-in card on the logic board, but not simple to replace, and likely not cheap to find a replacement.
Rule out your external devices, especially any USB hub.
Try reseating your RAM memory chips ...

Did you only get one kernel panic - and has not repeated? Could be a one-time glitch.
Be sure to check that cooling port, and come back with results of the hardware test.

What was the machine doing when this happened? Try running some high def streaming video from some movie trailers and maybe play around with different screen resolutions. I've found these methods to work for reduplicating a bad video card issue.

Sorry, I didn't even notice the replies, it was a one off thing, so far anyway. I do have Macfuse installed, my computer was running rather hot after playing some games in XP then booting straight to OS X. From memory it was just starting up, I clicked on finder, then noticed the peculiar slow grey wave of death...

What does macfuse have to do with anything...

Thanks
