Mac freezes many times each day - more than a month now. Beach ball appears. Can move it, but nothing responds. If I click off the application to Finder (to try to force quit) then beach ball appears in Finder.
Cannot force quit with keyboard - only power down. It will get so bad, that as soon as I power up, it freezes again. If I can manually power down, turn back on, then quickly Shut Down the correct way, it will run longer without freezing, but sometimes it freezes so quickly I can't even Shut Down.
Running a Mac Book on OSX 10.5.8
Run Disk Utility - nothing wrong there.
Based on what I heard advised in other forums:
I checked Activity Monitor - under CPU: % User varying between 2-6%, % System about 2-3% %Nice 0, % Idle 93%. Under System Memory - no page outs, page ins 175.93mb. Free 1.12GB, Wire 291.69mb, Active 522.37MB, Inactive 81.42mb, Used 894.99MB.
Ran Console App-Noticed that although my clock/date are correct, date appearing on recent messages say it's 6/16/10 (it's 2/25/11). Most repeated message are "Invalid argument" & "Operation Not supported on socket."
Mainly freezes after I've been online - in both Safari and Firefox. But like I said, after I have to power down the laptop and then turn it back on, more frequently it freezes again almost immediately. I have left it running for more than an hour to see if the beach ball would go away.
What else can I check to help you guys help me?
Thanks!
