I was just looking at the new macbook and I noticed the really cool feature with the trackpad. Thats really neat, but then I thought to myself, that the trackpad already supports two finger touch, so that tells me that the hardware supports it, all it needs is software.

is there software that will do that for my Macbook pro?

Your deduction that since both support two-finger somethings that the older trackpads must be identical (or at least as capable) as the newer trackpads, which may not be true.

The old trackpads can detect when two fingers are on the trackpad vs. one finger, but it may not have the hardware capability to track the motion of both fingers independently. The newer trackpad most likely has hardware that is capable of just that.

Believe me, I'd be as happy as you to find out it's in the software, because that means there's hope for us on older machines... but I would, seriously, not hold my breath. It is most likely a hardware capability that isn't present in older trackpads.
