Macbook OS not updating

I try and update my software and when my mac gets to the restart screen it stops at configuring update and will not go any farther.

Well something is messed up. What software are you upgrading from and to what and we will point you to a download for it?

1.Trash everything under Library/Updates then empty it.
2. choose to Download the updates not download and update
3. Once the download is complete. Boot into safe mode by pressing shift while restarting then apply the updates
