Making DVD's from AVI files

Not really. There are more _difficult_ ways that also give you more options. You might want to try looking into ffmpegX. I personally found it much too confusing for my taste, though. What *I* did: I bought a DivX/XviD capable DVD player. Now I simply put those .avi-files (well those which are DivX/XviD) on CD-Rs or DVD-Rs and watch them on my wall using a video beamer. An 18' picture *is* worth a little more than an iPod's screen for movies. :)

If you're looking for a faster way, I don't think you'll find one -- you must go through the conversion process, which takes time, no matter what program you use. Sure, one program may be 10 seconds faster or slower than another, but the conversion must happen, and is dependent upon the speed of your computer.

Toast is a "good" way -- what exactly are you looking for? Faster? Better quality? More options? What is "good?"

anything the same quality as the avi would be good, doesnt have to be the best

my friend said he had a new program for windows that does it in 40 mins, thought there might be an equivalent
