need help on my external hard-drive

hi,
i have a G4 ibook, and would like to transfer wat i had on my slave disk on my old pc onto my ibook. The jumpers are set to slave mode, i have plugged it in with USB2, there is a separate power inlet for the hard-drive and the LED light on the hard-drives case is green so it is working. thing is it doesnt appear on the desktop, neither does it appear in the disk utility so i have no idea how to mount it. Last time i tried this with a friends hard-drive (also used with pc) it worked fine, i've tried all i know and still cant figure this one out!!

Did you go to the Finder's preferences and make sure the a check mark is by the box for "Show These Items on the Desktop:"?
 
The "show items" has nothing to do with it if it doesn't show up in Disk Utility... What type of USB-2 enclosure is it? What brand (if any)?
