Not able to correctly startup off an Apple cd.

Hi, I need to start up from an Apple Install CD, it's the original, of course.. But when it starts up, I see the desktop, but no icons, no toolbar, no nothing. Only the background picture and the blank toolbar. Weird huh? And I have a few Apple cd's, and they all do the same, but they do show up in the startup disk control panel. So what's wrong?:confused:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Some more information may help:

- Are these 9 or X install CDs?

- What versions?

- This happens on both of your iMacs?
 
They are original Power Mac G4 9 install cd's, and I think that was the problem, my iMac might not be able to boot from a power mac cd?

Though, that'd be kinda weird because I can boot off it from my g3 iMac.

It's the 9.2.1 install cd btw.
