Old boot drive in new computer--no go

I just got a new G4 Dual 1.25 (lucky me!) to replace my G4 400. I want to use the boot drive from the G4 400 in the new computer because I've got so many customizations, bookmarks, email, etc. I put the drive in and it shows up fine in the finder. I can select it in the Startup drive section of the System Prefs, but it won't boot into that drive, it boots into the drive that came in the computer. I tried disconnecting the new drive--didnt' work. Presumably the system on the old drive won't recognize the Dual. Is there something I can do to update the old system on the old drive. This will save me days of work. Both drive are 10.2.5.

Thanks for any help. I tried searching, but the terms are too common.

Replying to self.

used the Software Restore and Install disk on the old drive. Other than having to update from 10.2.3 to 10.2.5 and lots of fiddling, I have my old drive booting with most of the bookmarks, setting, etc. saved. Still more fiddling, just found I have to reinstall Microsoft Intellimouse driver. Still a lot less trouble than starting with fresh system.
