Partition Hard Drive?

I recently bought a LaCie 250 Gb Hard Drive. I made a bootable clone of my Powerbook System to it. My question is: can i partition the hard drive leaving the bootable clone on one partition. If so, how? My system crashed after the 10.4.4 update so I cannot format (only way I know how to do it) and make that clone again. help ...

Ok ... I dont think i was clear enough on what i wanted to do on the first thread. Let's try one more time: I have some information on my external HD that vanished from the original source. My question is: can i partition the external HD without losing all that info on the hard drive ... if so, how? Does that make sense?

I've got some extensive experience with the first and haven't lost a single byte of data using iPartition
