powerbook g4 ram

ok so today i had to swap out my ram i had 2x512 pc2700 so-dimm
which was swapped for 1x1gb pc2700 so-dimm. at first there was no problem my powerbook G4 15" 1.5ghz/sd recognized the ram it said it had 1gb so far so good right? i didn't think there was anything wrong but after i shut my powerbook down after working on it all day took it home and started it back up a few hours later and now it says that i have 1x512 i tried swapping ram slots with the same result 1x512. anyone have any ideas?
 
i ran apple hardware test on it and it got and error on the logic board.
but the 1 gb chip was bad so i swapped it out with a good one. and it shows up just fine, but it looks like i have a little bit larger problem on my hands.
