Recents in Finder go back to 2018. Why?

I've been using EasyFind for years and it's just not cutting it for me these days. So I'm working on learning more about the great capabilities built into finder. However, this is a head scratcher. Everything I read about "RECENTS" says it is for "recent" searches... however, my Recents go back to 2018. Can I just clear this up to a point i.e., keep 2025, for example, and just clear everything prior to that? Was sort of an interesting rabbit hole when I started looking at some of the files and folders however ... :-)
 
You got me curious, so I checked out my recents and I go back to 2018 as well. And my recents are not from searches, but from documents that I worked on as well as pictures/documents I downloaded.

I would think that clearing the list would not hurt anything.
