SideTrack Settings . . .

Does anyone have SideTrack set up successfully on their machine? I downloaded it after receiving this answer from FREE TECH SUPPORT:

I have a Powerbook G4 that is young enough to have two finger scrolling on the trackpad.

I bought a 2nd machine last week which is older (and WELL out of warranty) and doesn't have the two finger facility. I miss it when I am on that machine.

I have seen various parts of these Powerbooks on eBay and the such and am wondering if I bought a younger trackpad - would it work with the two finger scrolling on the older machine.

(I am assuming that as the software updates didn't magically make the trackpad work with two fingers that it is a hardware solution not a software one.)

Any advice on this matter?

You can add third-party software that can add two-finger scrolling (search for SideTrack on Macupdate.com), but replacing the trackpad with a newer one will not solve the problem.

I have just paid for my version but can't find out how to set up the two finger scrolling I wanted it for. There are loads of settings available to me but I don't know which ones to use!

Can anyone help me?

Sidetrack is great software (i used on on my 1st gen 12" powerbook), but if you look at the feature list at http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/ you'll see that it does only scrolling using the edges of the trackpad rather than two finger scrolling. Sorry!

On the other hand the edge scrolling is pretty good. To set it go to the panel shown at http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/SideTrackScrollingOptions.jpg and for each of horizontal and vertical scroll, select and edge. I recommend setting the scroll area to around the 4th or 5th mark, then select the speed you want and you're all done.

There is a piece of software to enable two finger scrolling on _some_ powerbooks and ibooks though, its called iscroll2 and is at http://iscroll2.sourceforge.net/ , and there is a script they offer to test if your machine will support the two finger scroll. Its free too.

No problem, and even if you paid for software you didn't need you can feel good about supporting quality shareware.

Enjoy your mac!
