simple FTP connection question

I have a ibook G4 with Tiger 10.4.6 running. I went into system prefs and turned on FTP Access so I could connect to the ibook from other machines. When I try to connect I get a screen asking for user name and password but when I enter the account info for the mac it says it cannot log me on with that info. The ibook is logged in as the local admin and that is the same user name and password I am trying to use to connect from the other computers.

I've tried this from my XP box and from a Dual G4 1Ghz running 10.2.8 Server. What am I missing?
 
When entering the username and password information, are you entering the username and password info that's resident on the Mac running the FTP service? If not, then you need to do that.
 
yes, I'm using the login credentials of the currently logged in user on the mac which is also the administrator account.
