I installed a few haxies and other little programs that add an icon to your System Preferences panel. Some don't work any more after I upgraded OSX or I have become irrelevant.

I deleted the programs but how can I get rid of these icons in my System Preferences panel?
 
Usually, these are stored in /Library/PreferencePanes. You may also find them in ~/Library/PreferencePanes, where '~' is your home directory. If they're not in either of those, you might look at /System/Library/PreferencePanes, but that would be a really bad place for them to be in the first place. Hope this helps.
 
try deleting ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache

I meant delete just the cache file...I just gave the path to it so you know where to find it.
