Unmount Error

Running disk utility on a Tiger OS X but I can not boot from my hard drive because I'm getting an unmount error. As far as booting up the Mac I get to the Gray Splash Screen but that's as far as it goes.

It sounds as if you hard drive died. Did you run the HardWare Tests on it?

I'm getting the same problem with a brand new 500GB drive, which I bought to replace the original one that had died.
HELP!!!

Did you make sure the jumpers are set to master on the drive before you installed it?

Did you format the drive using Disk Utility from the OS install disk?

Jumper settings (master, cable select, etc) are mostly not relevant if the hard drive is SATA.

I know it's an old thread, but this just helped me. I'm setting up a G5, 1.6ghz with 10.4. I'm going to put in a second new SATA drive and I'll let it ride!
