I just bought a mac os x imac version 10.4 from a neighbor. I just bought a printer I really need to print out a document but it is only compatible with versions 10.5 & 10.6. I would like to know is it possible to update software to atleast 10.4 and if so do I have to have the internet to do that? I just got the computer so I don't have the internet set up yet.

10.5 is easy, but you'll need a retail copy of it to install. It is available on DVD, but not through Apple. You'll need to find a copy on ebay or similar. Next, you will need to update 10.5x to the latest version: 10.5.8 through 'Software Update' in the Apple Menu. For that, you'll need to be connected to the internet.

BTW: How are you posting here without the internet?

Thanks for the helpful info! I am using my android phone to post this. If I just buy the software from ebay to update it to 10.5 that won't do the trick to set up my printer? :)

Assuming you have the discs that came with the printer, then you should be all set as they will have the drivers on it. However, some might only come bundled with Windows drivers, in which case you will need to have an internet connection and download the drivers from the manufacturers website.
