Dear,

I just got my brother's 2004 G5 installed, which runs on OS 10.3. Is it technically possible to download OS 10.4 (guess still Tiger) from the Apple site? Do I need a regular installation CD-rom or is it not possible at all?

As you can hear from my question I'm a total rookie if it comes to Apple.

thank you very much.

Welcome to the forums. :)

You will need the disk of 10.4 in order to install. Any downloads are the updates.
There are some web sites that might still have it.

Dear Cheryil,

Thank you so much for you help. I will have a look at sites where I can still buy them. Do you think the 2004 G5 is strong enough to run the 10.4 version?

And od I need Leopard, Tiger or any other wild cat-version?

thnx!

Stephan

But - might as well go to 10.5. The machine will run Leopard well, if you max out the ram.

There are a few titles that MacOS X 10.5 will run that MacOS X 10.4 won't. If the OP needs Classic, however, then she should go with MacOS X 10.4 because it is not supported under MacOS X 10.5.

Agreed with MisterMe. Unless you need to run apps in Classic, Leopard would be the way to go. I'll be upgrading my iMac G5 to Leopard sometime soon since I really have no need to run Classic apps anymore.
