will a zero solve bad HD blocks?

does anybody have any suggestions on which hard drive I should go for? I have been looking at an IBM 80gb ata.

Any advice would be great!

Cheers.

My personal rule: Never purchase a used hard drive - IBM hasn't sold new consumer hard drives for about 2 years since hard drive business was sold to Hitachi.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been told before that Maxtor hard disks aren't that great. I've been recommended Seagate and stuff like that, but I don't think I could go past an external FireWire drive. Sure they're more expensive than internals, but at least you can take them around.

Well here I am, I have just installed a replacement drive - an ATA 160gb Maxtor. Its improved 10 fold, I dont get the spinning wheel, its quite and doesnt make a nasty scratching sound, and its fast!!

A very happy bunny! Thankyou to all that helped me and gave me good advice.

Elliot Newman.
