ive got a pc and an ibook and getting really bored of having to share a folder on my pc, mount it on the ibook and then copy the files. so i enabled windows sharing just now and it works a treat but its really freaking me out because my pc is allowed to create and DELETE files outside the dropbox folder!!! how can i stop this? i want to use windows sharing but i dont want a random pc connecting to my ibook's ip and just randomly deleting.

is there a way to limit access to a ip range (i have my own ip block from isp)?

btw its panther 10.3.4 and xp pro :)

I would just protect your lan from the wan (over your router) using a MAC-filter firewall and WEP.
If you want to protect your files even within the lan, I would setup a login and password for connecting to your mac and of course, don't save the login and password on the WinXP box.
For any other kind of restriction I would rather use an ftp server.

how do you make it ask for a username and password to connect? im the only one who uses my pc (as its in my bedroom) so that would be good for when i take my laptop to college :)
