X-Windows?

Thank you for the response. You don't really need to give Grandma level of detail. I was just getting very frustrated when I wrote that :)

I had previously installed Apple's X11 and the OO installation. I even previously tried the soffice path, because that looked likely.

Just did it all again including an un/reinstall of OO. Selecting the Open Office entry still does nothing, not even an error message.

The installer does complain that XDarwin does not exist.

If I type in the script supplied in the final window of the installer (basically command line execution) I get a bus error!

Sorry you're having trouble. I also figured you were joking around a bit about the grandma thing, or you would be playing Solitaire on Windows right now.

I just know how frustrating it is to follow inexact directions.

*** I just noticed that
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/
says they have a new beta installer for OO that knows about Apple's X11. Go try that! ***

(I'm going to install X11 and OpenOffice on my iBook, so I'll pay attention this time and let you know how it goes.)
