Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

So I tried adding the HD to the "rear" slot and setting the jumper settings of both HDs to "Cable Select". That didn't work too well, or at all I should say. It did however disable one of my RAM slots as I'm down to 512 Mb. Edit: I added the drive to the "front" slot again on the ATA/66...

Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

I finally managed to remove the HD in the "rear" slot. The Manual forgets to mention you have to enscrew a hard to see screw before you can "gently" slide the carrior up. Anyway, pried it off and didn't hit the motherboard too hard in the process ;) First thing I did was check the jumper...

Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

The jumper is set correctly, Disk utility doesn't recognize the drive (it won't be default when System Profiler doesn't physically detect anything in the slot). I'll try booting from the Panther CDs after I try installing the drive into the ATA/100 slot. Maybe it's something to do with...

Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

Found the Powermac MDD Manual. Installed the second drive into the ATA 66 slot. Set the jumpers to Cable Select (as the manual told me) and it ... doesn't work. Obviously. System Profiler doesn't even recognize anything is in the bay ... *sigh*

Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

I found out that the PMG4 has an ATA 66 and an ATA 100 bus. Err, the HD I'm using comes from a computer that had ATA 66 so I'm assuming the HD has ATA 66? Does this sound remotely sensible at the least?

Second HD in a PMG4 MDD Questions

I recently purchased a Powermac G4 MDD Dual 1.25 Ghz because I was told it was the fastest machine I could get that would still run OS 9. I want to add a second, OS 9 disk (I use it for one specific application I can't miss and can't do on OS X). So what I did was format the original HD...

    Classic on a 12" Powerbook

I have the Mac OS 9.2.1 Official Installation CD and want to install it on a TiBook G4/867 but it won't recognize the CD as bootable (neither while holding 'c' down at start up nor in System Preferences in the 'Startup Disk' pane. Help would be appreciated, Thanks, Frederik-Jan

Iomega HDD 80Gb (USB 2) Permissions?

I just bought this HDD second handed (I have a USB 2 card, no worries there) from a friend, he erased the entire HD for me at his place but I'm only allowed to 'read' on the disk when I plug it in to my Mac! I tried rebooting, and inserting later and some combinations, neither worked. When I...

Opening a Powermac Quicksilver CD Tray

I'll give that Eject application a shot. Thanks for the numerous replies. But for most of them: I'm trying to open it in classic so booting OS X is not a solution as Bobw pointed out ;) Something about a stone and two times ;) There is no place to put a paperclip in either :( (this was in my...

Opening a Powermac Quicksilver CD Tray

Is there any way to open the CD tray if the Eject button on the keyboard is not working? It's a Quicksilver G4 so there is no button and no place to put a metal in to force the tray open. The Apple keyboard doesn't seem to work in classic. And NO, opening the Tray in Mac OS X is NOT a solution...

Kernel Panic on PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics)

I bought a Quicksilver G4/733 yesterday because I was sick and tired of all the problems I was having with the upgraded old G4 I used to use before that. I installed the Quicksilver with OS 9.2.2, copied all the data from the old 40 Gb drive and then proceeded to install the 120 Gb drive on the...

Sawtooth G4 AGP Graphics booting problems

We solved the problem on a quite onorthodox manner: 1) Connect the old HD and the OS X HD and cross your fingers the computer boots. This took me 3 tries. 2) Open Preferences and set the startup disk to the OS X drive. 3) Reboot 4) Open Preferences again and make sure the OS X drive...

Sawtooth G4 AGP Graphics booting problems

I plugged in a much older IDE HD into my Sawtooth G4 which already had 2 HDs (120Gb w Mac OS X and 40Gb for Mac OS 9). So to do this I removed a HD and just plugged the smaller/older one from the Performa in. This gave some problems with booting hard drives but I presumed this was just because I...

Hooking up a Performa 630 as a SCSI HD

I see. I removed the HD and was going to plug it into a casing (I have some left from other external devices such as HDs, CD Readers, etc.) Anyway, I found out that it does indeed use IDE as was pointed out and I plugged it into the Sawtooth G4 I have. Resulting crashes are much more worse ...

Hooking up a Performa 630 as a SCSI HD

I'm trying to repair an old Performa 630 I still have but I want to get the data off of it first. Of course the entire system is bugged, boot up disks are broken so there's not much of anything I can do except delete the thing. Of course this is out of the question before I get a chance to...
