Cool, totally forgot about that. Was wondering if Space Colony was any good or not; guess I'll know in a few minutes...

Best way to transfer a file using ssh?

Assuming your SSH server is configured to run it, SFTP also works like a standard FTP program (put, get, etc.) but runs through an encrypted channel.

    remote to control AirTunes/AirPort Express!!!

There are bunch out there, it seems. This one seems to get reasonably good reviews as well if you are looking for cross-platform support (controlled through a web browser). iTunes webRemote Still waiting for confirmation of my shipment...

    remote to control AirTunes/AirPort Express!!!

My Airport Express should arrive sometime this week and I'm excited to see if: iHam on Rye 2.0 works or not. No reason it shouldn't so if you have a desktop serving up the majority of your music and you have users on laptops, this sounds like the way to go for shared remote control...

Allowing only certain users to ssh

For what it's worth, I prefer the AllowUsers approach instead as you are explicitly allowing a single user (you) and denying all others access. Kind of like telling a bouncer to keep everyone out except for me rather than to watch out for that seedy little guy who keeps trying to get in...

    sudo won't work.

I run my account as a "normal" user in OS X but have enabled 'sudo' permissions for Terminal stuff; keeps my son's wandering fingers (or mine, for that matter) from doing any accidental damage to the GUI side of things but allows me the flexibility to work in Terminal as needed. Simply add...

Yahoo to launch 100MB free e-mail

The new 100MB mailboxes are up and running on Yahoo; of course, I'm actually seeing some connectivity problems with Yahoo as probably every single user is trying it out... Here's hoping for a bump in .Mac sometime this year.

Control music played on an XP machine with a powerbook?

Try slimp3 which will allow you to use your XP machine to stream your music to iTunes. Control of what is being played is done through a web page. Cheers.

Set up Raid Mirror (G5) without having to reinstall OSX

Moving systems from single drive to single drive isn't much of an issue; why not hook up a Firewire drive to your G5, carbon clone to the that drive, boot off that drive, then clone back to the newly created RAID array on the two internal drives? In theory, that should be easy enough to do...

Setting up a dedicated server: experiences, please.

Depends if you want to be able to say you are running on Mac or not, I guess. Otherwise, go with a GUI-less Unix/Linux server which is light on resources and really stretches the life out of your old hardware. Lot of dissatisfaction with recent changes in their direction for the product...

    Yahoo (100MB) versus .Mac (15MB)

One change that I did like about Yahoo was when they started to not count the content of your bulk mail folder against your quota. I wish .mac would offer something similar on the server side so that using webmail would mean a cleaner inbox as well; this is particularly handy if you are away...

    Yahoo (100MB) versus .Mac (15MB)

Assuming this really happens: http://news.com.com/2100-1032_3-5212262.html it will be interesting to see what/if Apple will upgrade services for .mac members in the mail arena. I will continue to renew to support Apple, but I do like the thought of more for less. Cheers.

    Cisco VPN Client

Doesn't the sysadmin of the Cisco box have access to Cisco downloads? He/she should be able to get you the latest client (4.0.3 IIRC) which works fine for me. If you are connecting to a standard Windows PPTP/LTP based VPN, the built-in VPN client on Panther works just as well. Cheers.

How long do you go before rebooting?

Not for any particular reason, but my laptop rarely gets rebooted except between updates and occasional funkiness from applications (Yahoo Webcam comes to mind). It's pretty amazing that I can sleep/wake the laptop without any issues at all, runs all sorts of apps without it even blinking...
