    Ctrl+Alt+Del

Ctrl+Shift+Esc is the keyboard command for the Task Manager in Windows (bypassing the two-step process of Ctrl+Alt+Del on some set ups). I'm surprised that it works :).

    OS X 10.5 Intel only?

There is the amazing potential that Apple will release a Virtual PC esque application for PowerPC but I would find that a whole bunch of wasted effort.

    Why Use Application Launchers???

OK, I'm kind of an anomaly in this respect: When I was on Panther, I *adored* LaunchBar. I couldn't use a different Panther machine efficiently without it. I was fine with Tiger, though, because it had spotlight (and Cmd+Enter to load the top hit). That was fine, until I installed Tiger on my...

    Apache problem .local

I'd love to know how to turn that off myself, but I can explain a workaround: It's Bonjour trying to be helpful. To fix the problem, just include a trailing forward slash (or the whole URL including index.html/php) For instance http://duckstorm.mine.nu breaks, but http://duckstorm.mine.nu/...

    Online Calendar

Use iCal and iCal Exchange (www.icalx.com or www.icalexchange.com). Free solution (though the version of PHPiCalendar they use is very old, and is missing some key features like repeating events). Personally, I installed (and skinned) the latest version of PHPiCalendar on my blog and it works...

    Stealing my neighbour's wifi

Why don't you go and knock on your neighbour's door and say "My computer keeps using your wireless because it's easier for it to use than my own. It's not deliberate, but unless you secure the network, I can't guarantee that it won't keep using it." Get them to MAC filter your laptop if you...

    Modifying the Menu Bar size?

There is a hack of sorts (but it's imperfect, and unsupported by Apple): Open Quartz Debug (which is installed with the Developers' Tools) and turn on Quartz 2D Extreme. Set the resolution to whatever suits and open an application to test it out. Then force-quit Quartz Debug to stop it from...

Thinking of switching but a ?

It will work; but be aware that it's not going to be a painless process. If you think you'll spend more time in Access than out of it, buy a $300 PC and save yourself unnecessary effort. Virtual PC is best at simply being a way to run the occasional important program. Just to be perfectly...

    OSX Legal question

It wouldn't be illegal for you, but it would violate the EULA if the person who sold their copy of the restore discs didn't also own another license for OS X. The point is, the people who sell their discs on eBay after they've installed the OS are violating the EULA if they don't have another...

Forgot firmware password on MacBook Pro

I wouldn't be holding my breath if pulling the RAM doesn't work. Certainly not while still covered by warranty.

Also look at Seashore, which I find is a beautiful Paint replacement (and is tiny and Cocoa instead of Carbon)

What Is "whois" ... "ping" ... "pong"?

I've never heard of the command "pong". It has no man page in BASH either. Some people, however, refer to a computer's reply to an incoming ping command it's "pong" (ping, pong, get it?).

    Adobe CS3 due in mid-2007

gerbick; how much swaying does ADOBE need to do? Every professional I've ever met uses Photoshop, Illustrator. InDesign won't benefit from CI or CV to move ahead of QXP.
