    Office 2004: Standard vs. Educational

I've got an interesting dilemma. We have several Macs for which we purchased one copy of Office 2004 Standard, not realizing that it can't be run on more than one machine at a time. (Grr.) I was about to resign myself to ordering three more copies of Office 2004 Standard so each of us can use...

Best way for a clean install?

Ok, that goes back to my original question then. ;) Should I do 9.x first and then Panther, the other way around, or does it not matter? Just out of curiosity, what versions of OSX do come with Classic on the disc? Seems strange that some would and some wouldn't, if that's the case. m19

Best way for a clean install?

I have the 9.1 system discs that came with my G4 and a set of retail Panther discs. I'm not sure if the Panther discs came with Classic; is there any easy way to check? Thanks for the help :) m19

Best way for a clean install?

Based on feedback from a couple threads I'd started (here and here), I'm going to backup my files, wipe my hdd, and do a clean install of Panther this weekend. I still need Classic for a couple apps, as well. Logically I'd assume I'd install 9.x first, do the necessary updates to 9.2.2, and then...

    CD audio problems in 10.3.4

I'm not familiar with that CD; would it come packaged with OSX? (I'll check around for it if so.) Hello again. :) The processor isn't overclocked, no; it's rated at 1.3 Ghz and is running as such. If I get a chance later today I'll swap processors and test Classic/CDs again. The harddrive...

    CD audio problems in 10.3.4

I've tried with a new CD, several older CDs, and a CD-R I burned, all with the same stuttery results. m19

    CD audio problems in 10.3.4

I've noticed some weird behavior when I play CDs in 10.3.4. The CD audio will often skip around several times in a row, sometimes freezing completely for a second or two, and other times I'll get a brief "BZZZZT!" noise from the speakers, like an electric buzzsaw. Then the CD goes back to...

    Classic exceptionally stuttery!

Had another thought... Do you think the fact that I upgraded to Panther on top of an existing 9.x installation rather than a clean install has anything to do with it? If my 9.x had anything wrong with it, that'd be affecting performance. m19

    Classic exceptionally stuttery!

I'm starting to wonder if it's something specifically with FileMaker 5 running in Classic. I've gotten Outlook to an acceptable level of usability but FM still stutters every other second, making it impossible to work with. Hmm.... m19

    Classic exceptionally stuttery!

Did a rebuild, cleaned out the cache(s), tried starting Classic with no extensions (in which case nothing would work ^_^) and then the base 9.2.2s, all with no noticeable effect. I'm still getting the stuttering in several apps. Any more ideas? :\ m19

    Classic exceptionally stuttery!

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if Classic maintains the memory settings of a 9.x installation after an upgrade to X? I had 9.2.2 first, with memory allocations set how I wanted them (and had been using them for a while), and then upgraded to X (and now 10.3.4). If Panther does indeed...

    Classic exceptionally stuttery!

I'm running OS 10.3.4 and am having a major issue with Classic mode which I need to run my version of FileMaker, among other things. First off, when Classic and a Classic app are running it noticeably slows down the rest of the system, even OSX-native apps. For example, with Classic...
