Help me learn to program, please

Hmmm, your mileage may vary, but I disagree with the choice of C as a first language. I've been in this business for 26 years and have worked in almost every programming language there is, and think C is just too 'loose' for use as a beginner language -- too much room to develop bad habits...

    DIV Layers and alignment question...

My previous reply assumes that it's the div itself that you want to align. If what you really want is to align the text within the div to the right (which will span the width of the page by default), then "text-align:right" will do the trick. bear

    DIV Layers and alignment question...

For browsers that comply with CSSP2, apply style rules like the following: position : absolute; width : 200px; (or whatever) right : 0px; Gecko-based browsers and Safari deal with this just fine. IE does not. For IE you need to screw around with text-align:right and/or table hacks...

    Advice on non Apple laptops

I've had Dells and I've had Sonys. You could never get me to go near a Dell again unless I had a large weapon to blow it to smithereens. I thought the Sony was a great machine, but as someone else had mentioned, never try to install Linux on it. Definitely Windoze only! hth, bear

    Apple and Trustworthy Computing

Is it OK to switch to a Mac? Will I die?

Last night, I spent a few hours at a neighbor's house patching yet another Windows security hole, This one had her system crashing every few minutes when someone tried to take advantage of the RPC buffer-overflow vulnerability. This is the 2nd time in the three weeks she's owned the computer...

Need help regarding Apple's Safari javascript.

"doesn't work" isn't helpful. What's happening on IE? This is very straight-forward Javascript. No reasons on earth it shouldn't operate on any Javascript-enablde browser. bear

Accessing a MS Access Database in Java

If you can get your hands on a JDBC-ODBC bridge it should work for you. As far as I know, it's system independent. A little research should verify this or not. hth, bear

    what flavor?!

My roommate has done a lot of reading on Lindows. A number of reviews have touted is as the easiest Linux to install and get running. Since this is just a stop-gap solution for you, perhaps the easiest might be best. bear

Any luck with USB wireless network adapters?

I wasn't sure if this should go in peripherals or networking, so I took a shot... Has anypne had good luck with finding a USB wireless network adapter that will actually work with Jaguar? I haven't. I have an indigo iMac which I'd like to add to my airport (11b, not 11g) network. It's not...

If you are talking about the text labels for the radio buttons, they're not really part of the radio button and so there's no radio button attribute to change. What you can do (modern browsers only) is the place the labels in span tags, give them an id, and then change the contents of the...
