The time the forum shows is wrong

Hi, I don't know why, but the time the forum shows is wrong. I live in Brisbane, which is GMT+10H, and I've set my time zone in the prefs to be that. The forum also says I am GMT+10, but the time it calculates is an hour ahead of the clock. Have a look at my screen shot snippet if you...

    Permission problems with cvs

Hi, I wanted to try cvs to get the code for Fire. I did what the website said and got this: [Helena-Pattersons-iBook:~] markpatt% cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.fire.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/fire login (Logging in to anonymous@cvs.fire.sourceforge.net) CVS password: cvs login: cannot open...

How many GB for the whole Bible?

You know you can get the whole Bible narrated on CDs. It takes 48 audio tapes, and I guess a similar number of CDs. Could that all fit on an iPod? How much hard disk does the spoken voice take? Music is about 1 megabyte a minute, but I guess the voice is less.

How to get around DVD region change limit?

I'm looking into RPS's site. It seems to address the issue, but it sounds scary. Does anyone have any experience with DVDReset. Its caveat says: "If anything goes wrong, you may end up with a damaged drive, and you must have it replaced." I tried StarBuck's suggestion, a french open source...

How to get around DVD region change limit?

Hi, I just played a DVD borrowed from a friend. I live in Australia, region 4, it's a region 4 DVD, but I had to lose on change to watch it. I've got 2 more changes then what? This is a really ill considerd form of copy protection  . I don't copy DVDs, we get them from a range of...

How to get my friend onto Apple Music Store?

Yeah, to get her to sell from there as well. A service like the Apple Music Store seems a great way to allow small volume artists to at least be available. The cost of storing on the servers is much less that printing CDs and distributing them, then holding them in shops. This could be a blow...

How to get my friend onto Apple Music Store?

Hi, I have a friend who has released a couple of CDs. I have ripped them and put the track into onto CDDB. I would like to introduce her to the Apple Music Store. I couldn't find a link for aspiring musos. Anyone know about this? === Mark Patterson

    iBook disk playing up

Thanks for that info on running fsck. Maybe that would have done it. But in sunday evening the machine froze, as it had been doing, and when I tried to restart it didn't get all the way through the login. Fortunately it's still under warranty.

    iBook disk playing up

I've stopped using floding@home for a few days to see if that could be the problem. But I've been having strange crashes for a while, and stopped f@h for a while to have less going on, but the crashes continued. This may be a continuation of the same underlying problem. What happens with bad...

iPod suddenly only lasts 45 mins

No, it was recharged with its own recharger, and then used with just headphones.

    iBook disk playing up

In the last day or so things have been a bit strange. I normally leave the ibook running folding@home all night and in the morning just have to hit one key to get it active again. But yesterday I had to reboot. I saw the default screensaver, but it was frozen, so I rebooted. Since then after a...

iPod suddenly only lasts 45 mins

I bought my wife an ipod in june last year, a 5 GB model. It appears that since the iMovie 4 upgrade it runs through the batteries when playing much quicker than normal. Does anyone know anything about this phenomenon?

    10.2.5 slower than 10.2.4

Ohh, and the machine (an iBook with airport card, 256 MB of RAM, 700 Mhz, 30 GB HD) did a kernel panic before the update had finished.

    10.2.5 slower than 10.2.4

My experience with going from 2.4 to 2.5 is that logging out is slower. But one weird thing happened: In all 3 logins the background image file has apparently been deleted. We were all set back to the default screen, and the files were missing from our shared images folder.

Is the updater supposed to do kernel panicsc?

It happened when I installed 10.2.5, which I haven't done since. According to About this Mac I'm now running 10.2.5. I had a similar problem earlier: http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30611

Is the updater supposed to do kernel panicsc?

Hi, I just used the software update to check for updates and install 10.2.5. I left it alone to do its thing for a while, as I looked after the kids, and when I came back I had the kernel panic screen telling me in several languages to hold the power key down to reboot. Am I right in assuming...

    Came up in commandline mode!

We had an alarming experience with the family ibook today. My wife logged in and up came a black darwin command line screen. When I came home it was back at the login screen, I logged in and got the same. When I logged out I got the login screen, but came logging in just got me to the black...

Combo update panicked, now everything is slower

Thanks for that link. I guess there are some useful lawyers ;). By clean install, do you mean reformatting everything first? That sounds scary. It would mean backing up all the user data and downloads to CD first, then putting them back in the right place. I've never had to do that before...
