Getting started on apps with mac...

What do you mean by "make apps?"

    File and App permissions

That's weird. I always thought that by installing a program in the main Applications folder (not under your home directory) as an Admin, you're installing it for all users. Perhaps it's some weirdness involving 2 admins. All my Macs have multiple users, and if the Application is in the root...

Ibook G4 Freezing Upon Boot Up

If you have another mac, you connect them together via a firewire cable, and boot the iBook while holding down the "T" key. That will give the other Mac access to your iBook hard drive. If you don't have another Mac, I suppose you could go to the Apple Store and have the Genius Bar guys get...

    Copying Apps without CD...Adobe

As far as I know, all you need is the Adobe application folder, and the Adobe folder located in the Library -> Application Support folder.

Some high piches noises and some scan lines

It sounds very similar to the iBook logic board issues. When the machine is on and apparently working fine, give the case some gentle taps. You might want to even move the screen back and forth a little. If by doing that you cause the scan lines to appear it's logic board.

Any hard drive limit on an iMac G3?

I have an old iMac and ran into the hard drive sizing issue. Basically, I created 2 partitions, 1 for the OS, and 1 for Home Directories. (It broke the HD into small enough piecies for the hardware to use it.)

    10.4.8 update no desktop...

If I were you I'd give up and reinstall. Do the install option that keeps your usernames and files though.

    Vpn

Can you provide more detail about what you mean when you say "I'm unable to access computers at the office." Are they Windows machines? If so, Workstations or Servers? Are you trying to connect to a drive share on those machines or remote desktop to them?

    iTunes -48 Error code

It might be a permissions problem. Run the repair permissions function in Disk Utility and see if that helps.

Dead iBook, need to copy files to new MacBook

Mmace, Some of these are easy and others are a little harder... Emails - Copy the /Users/<username>/Library/Mail/ folder over Address Book - I don't know this one. Photos (and if possible the folders they were in within iPhoto) - Photos can be found under Pictures -> iPhoto Library...

adding / updating files on ipod takes FOREVER

Have you tried to run a "Repair" from iTunes? I think that's an option now in the iPod menu. Perhaps something's gone terribly wrong with the iPod's file system.

Upgrading a G3 (non DVD) from 10.2 to 10.3 by external DVD

I don't know if Mac OS will boot off a USB drive or not. And even if it does, you wouldn't want to since the USB ports on a G3 are USB 1.0 and really slow. Is the G3 the only Mac you own? If you have another Mac with a DVD drive in it, you can put the OS DVD in that machine, boot the machine...

    Sharing an external hard drive?!?

The external drive has to be mounted on the G4 to work. For example, at home I have a G4 eMac with a 250GB ext HD attached. If I turn the eMac on, and the ext drive on, and then try to connect to the ext drive from my MacBook, the ext drive doesn't appear as a volume I can connect to. If I then...

How to open *.mdb on mac?

Microsoft Access is not available for Mac. Excel, Word, and Powerpoint are - but not Access. If you have a Intel-based Mac, I would just run Windows in Parallels or dual-boot it. That way you can just work with your Access files in it's native program.

stuffit refuses to open .zip file

Try opening a terminal, changing to the directory that the zip is in, and then typing "unzip <filename>". If that doesn't work, the file is definitely corrupt.

A major opportunity lost for the windows world

Couldn't agree more. The registry is rediculous. You should never have a repository of OS data that you rely on your software developers to take care of. So many programs written for Windows don't use the registry well, and almost never uninstall gracefully. You end up with a bloated, ugly...

You can also open the Activity menu in Safari, find the video file that way.

    Help with mounting/unmounting problem

Open a terminal, go to /Volumes and then delete the directory that was attributed with the mount. ie : rmdir /Volumes/<mount_directory>

Server's static IP address used by another device???

There's really no way to find out what machine it is unless you have a machine to MAC Address list somewhere. I assume that you're not in charge of the machines in the lab? I would suggest that you contact whoever owns the lab machines and ask them about it. They should know what machines have...

Conecting my eMac to my TEAC tune

I don't see why not. Just get yourself a 1/8" stereo phono to Left/Right RCA cable. It's like plugging in an external set of powered speakers. (I'm using M-Audio studio monitors on my eMac.)
