    fat kids...

And as Have I Got News once said, it can be even more worthwhile when someone else is doing it with you! (Sex that is, not eating, though that should be a sociable occasion also.)

    User, Group, & Share Inconsistencies

Ordinarily, on a *nix system, you'de find your Samba config files in /etc/samba. However, the file you need on OS X should be /private/etc/smb.conf This is the configuration file for SMB. You can generate shares from within this file (use pico/vim/whatever to edit it). Also, the full O'Reilly...

    Connecting IMAC and G4

I think I'm right in thinking that with the G4 you won't need a cross-over cable. Maybe the iMac is the same but I am not too certain. But, since you have a cross-over cable, simply plug it into both machines. On both Macs (since they are running OS X should be straightforward)... 1. Open...

    pointer rollover not working

Hi bella It's quite simple really. The rollovers that don't work are because they do not have a link (a <a href="blah.htm">). If you look at your code, you'll notice that the links with the <a href...> attached to them are the ones that show the hand, the ones that don't... show nothing...

Web Dev Software for Mac ??

Yes, I initially liked the project list, but didn't like the way you had to open another file in a separate window (if you wanted more than one file open). The function list is nice, as you say. But realised all of this is within BBEdit anyway. At least it got me to go back to it and check...

Web Dev Software for Mac ??

I'm back to BBEdit again after a couple of hours... skedit just felt too clumsy. Although the Site Management facility seemed nice, it was awkward to use.

    pointer rollover not working

Not sure what your experiencing... If you mean the rollovers on the left-hand links, they seem to work for me (in Safari). When you move the pointer over the link title, an Ohm(?) logo appears to the left. Is this correct?

    Your Mac accidents

Hey, I had one of those cool machines... music machine of its' day! It also suffered from a bad power supply. It nearly killed me! I got so used to having to change the fuse that eventually I forgot to unplug the power one day, grabbed the dead fuse to replace, and found myself across the...

    Safari, javascript and flash

You could look at www.alistapart.com for standards compliance (since, this is more than likely the reason certain javascript code and Flash doesn't work in Safari). Check out the DOM/Script section.

Web Dev Software for Mac ??

just do a search for skedit on http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ or go to their site: http://www.skti.org/ Version 3.3 is the latest. I'm going to try it out on my current job in place of BBEdit. The site management feature is good. It feels slightly clumsier than BBEdit (though not...

Web Dev Software for Mac ??

Wow... thanks for the reminder mdnky! I tried skedit about a year ago, it was okay. But now, what you get strips the competition... I purchased BBEdit before Xmas, wish I'd checked skedit out again first. All that for $20!

    FireBird becomes FireFox...

It's the first I've seen of Safari with concerns to any serious shortcomings. I've only ever found Safari to be 'far-too' compliant (everything looks great and standardised until you check out IE)! Far better than that POS IE6 for Windows. I agree though, the points you've raised are valid...
