Virex Q: What is this folder?! "/sw/lib/libcrypto.0.9.6.dylib"

The "sw" folder is installed by Fink. You can trash it if you no longer use Fink.

Yes I'm sure you can get it on DVD by the procedure you describe. And iMovie 3 will do the DV-stream conversion for you - no Pro Key required. Cool!

I told Dell your concerns and they agreed to stop making floppies part of the standard package. Next I'll hit up Gateway.

The light-emitter may just be dead. Have a service center take a look at it.

Trying to use rsync to backup to a Firewire drive?

IIRC rsync won't copy resource forks either, so it's not a very good backup solution. Use the ditto command instead.

You might be able to override the usual limits on usernames using NetInfo Manager to change the username and renaming the home directory from the Terminal.

    .pax files?

PAX is the internal format used by installer package files. You could try double-clicking it and see if Installer.app will know what to do with it. Otherwise re-download the iMovie updater.

    Applescript question

In short, yes. Your script could run as a background application that looks for the volume to be mounted and then sleeps for a few seconds. Another possibility would be to talk to the author of this application: http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=17724&db=mac See if he'd be...

    Help mac slow down

Hmm, sometimes if File Sharing is turned on you can't do disk repair. Is File Sharing turned on? You should be able to do the repair using the DiskWarrior startup disk, which I believe is finally available in the current version.

    Running multiple copies of Mail?

I suggest you give her a separate account on your computer. In the long run you'll be better off, as there is much less chance of her trashing your precious data - or more to the point - of you trashing hers. She doesn't really want to look at all your hyper-masculine desktop pictures anyways...

    iTunes temp files???

I believe you can trash those without any consequences. Are their creation dates particularly old? I don't see any such files in my iTunes Music folder, and I've been using iTunes for quite awhile on this machine. Maybe they're left over from an earlier - presumably lamer - vesion.

Have you tried holding down the option key at startup to see the available startup disks? Also, from the Jaguar install CD you can run Disk Utility and see if there are any issues with your drive.
